2014 Summer Course

CHIN1213 Folklore and Modern Chinese Culture (6 credits)

This course presents a comprehensive exploration on the prominent aspects in Chinese folklore, including myths, folktales, folk songs, folk performances and arts, folk architectures, folk rituals, and festivals, which have in many ways affected modern Chinese culture and social life. It introduces major theories in folklore, literature, and cultural criticism to help students reflect on the essential features of Chinese folk culture and its persistence through eventful social and political transformations in China during the 20th century. The course also provides students experiential learning of traditional and modern Chinese folk culture in Beijing area. Site visits include Beijing Folk Arts Museum (Dongyue Temple), Siheyuan house, Laoshe teahouse, etc.

The course is one of the 2013-14 “HKU-China 1000 Exchange Scheme” programs, and will be offered in collaboration with the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at the Peking University. The Ministry of Education (China) and the Education Bureau (Hong Kong) will provide partial subsidies for students who participate in this program. Students are responsible for some cost not covered by the governmental subsidies as well as personal travel documents.

Priority will be given to Year 1 & Year 2 students in related majors/minors from Faculties of Arts, Education, and Social Sciences.

2014年暑期課程

CHIN1213民俗學與現代中國文化（6學分）

本 課全面探討中國民俗學的一系列重要內容，包括神話、民間故事、民謠、民間表演和藝術、民俗建築、民俗禮儀、以及節慶習俗，等等。這些方面對現代中國的文化 與社會產生了廣泛而深遠的影響。授課中將介紹民俗學、文學與文化批評等相關領域的理論，幫助學生進一步思考中國民俗文化的核心特徵，及在二十世紀中國社會 巨變過程中的延續和發展。本課還為學生提供實踐性學習經驗，實地了解北京地區較為典型的民俗文化。參觀考察包括北京民俗博物館（東嶽廟）、老北京四合院、 老舍茶館等。

本課程為2013-14年“香港大學千人內地交流計劃”項目之一，由香港大學中文學院與北京大學中文系合作開辦。國家教育部和香港教育局將分別為修讀本課的學生提供部分資助。學生需負擔政府資助以外的小部分費用，以及自行辦理旅行證件。

報名將優先考慮文學院、教育學院和社會科學學院相關專業的一、二年級學生。
