陳若曦：1938年生於台北。台灣大學外文系畢業，美國約翰霍普金斯大學寫作碩士。1960年與白先勇、王文興等創辦《現代文學》雜誌，以寫實小說著名。1966年與夫婿赴中國遭逢文革。1973年離開中國後，將其在中國的見聞與經驗寫成〈尹縣長〉，1974年於香港發表，引起文壇注目。之後移居北美。曾獲國家文藝獎、中山文藝獎、吳三連文藝獎、吳濁流文學獎等。
Born in Taipei in 1938 and graduated from National Taiwan University, where she and a group of other young writers (including Bai Xianyong and Wang Wenxing) founded the Modern Literature, Chen Ruoxi was known for her realist works. After graduation she gained an MA in the United States, having studied at Mount Holyoke College and Johns Hopkins University. In 1966 she and her husband went to Nanjing and lived there for seven years during the Cultural Revolution. Her work “The Execution of Mayor Yin”, published in HK in 1974, won her instant recognition. On leaving China, she emigrated to Canada and then the United States after staying in HK for a year. She has won several prestigious awards including the National Culture and Arts Foundation Award, the Chung Shan Literature and Art Award, and the Wu San-Lien Literary Award.
