陳遠止博士於1980年代已在香港大學工作，三十年間，由助教而至今日，現職副教授。他喜愛目前的工作，除了瑣碎的行政責任外，教學和研究都令他感覺樂趣無窮。他享受和學生交流想法，認為是教學生涯中最滿足的事。他堅持用最簡單淺易的方法將學識傳授給學生。他的主要研究興趣在漢語語言學和中國文字學。
Dr. Chan started working at the University of Hong Kong in the 1980s, as a junior year demonstrator. Now, just over 3 decades later, he is working as an Associate Professor. He loves his work, both teaching and conducting research, despite the occasional frustrations encountered when completing administrative assignments. He enjoys the fulfillment that comes with teaching, as it allows him to communicate ideas to the students. He always strives to find ways to present theories to students in a simple manner. His major interests are Chinese linguistics and Chinese writing system.
